China’s Anbang Insurance has global ambitions and unusually shadowy ownership connections back home

group of 39 obscure companies control Anbang Insurance Group, a conglomerate with $295 billion in assets. Many of the roughly 100 individuals associated with these firms hail from the hometown of Anbang's chairman, Wu Xiaohui, and are related to him or his wife, a granddaughter of Deng Xiaoping.
