One of many critics of repairs on a portion of the Great Wall calls them ‘vandalism done in the name of preservation’
The substance used to pave over the crumbling stones of the Great Wall section in northeastern China made the ancient monument more closely resemble a smooth sidewalk than a weathered relic of history. Authorities said beauty was not prioritized in the project, and one villager who worked on the repairs said they made the wall much "easier to walk on" during rainy or snowy weather.
