Choice of a white man to direct live action ‘Mulan’ film provokes anger among fans and sparks accusations of Hollywood ‘whitewash’ of Asian stories

he legendary story of a woman who joined the army in place of her sick father was introduced to Western audiences in a famous 1998 Disney animation. This live-action retelling of the same story joins several other recent productions which have been criticized for using non-Asian actors in "yellow face" makeup, including the upcoming adaptation of Japanese anime "Ghost in the Shell," starring Scarlett Johansson.
