World’s largest automated container shipping terminal begins a trial run in Shanghai

China began a trial run of the world’s largest automated container shipping terminal on December 10 in Shanghai.

The Shanghai Yangshan Deep Water Port is expected to handle 4 million 20-foot shipping containers and will soon expand to 6.3 million containers.

The technology might help Shanghai keep its status as the world’s largest container terminal, a ranking the city has held for seven years in a row.
