SupChina Manifesto
Our Mission
SupChina exists to provide audiences around the world with an accurate, comprehensive, and contextual understanding of China — a country whose rise may very well reshape the entire world order.
Why we care
Three things will define the next phase of human civilization: climate change, artificial intelligence, and China — and China plays heavily in the first two.
No global challenge or opportunity facing any individual, company, or country can be fully addressed without considering the China angle. China, its companies, and its people will be your most impactful partner, your fiercest competitor, your largest market, your source of innovation, and, in many cases, a systemic risk.
Many people outside of China assume they know a lot about the country and what’s going on there, because they read about it in the headlines on a daily basis. But few have truly invested time to understand China’s past, present, and future — and how it impacts making decisions today.
Making matters worse, there is a dwindling amount of free information and independent thought available in media directly from China, as the Communist Party of China has clamped down on their domestic civil liberties and media industry in recent years. Western media outlets, for their part, are hard-pressed to dedicate the time and attention to China beyond the 2-3 biggest stories driving headlines, as their audiences turn to them for wider areas of coverage than just China.
The status quo sources of information, perspective, and analysis on China are insufficient for the time period we are entering — one in which China’s rise will steadily increase its relevance for all of us.
SupChina exists to make that information, perspective, and analysis available.
Who is SupChina for?
SupChina readers and subscribers include business professionals, diplomats and government employees, researchers, academics, and other decision-makers around the world. We are read on a daily basis in embassies from Beijing to Helsinki and board rooms from New York to Shanghai.
But we are also read by young people in cities around the world — from Chinese diaspora communities in America to young people in India or Indonesia for whom China plays an outsized role in their economic and security future.
Our content is for anyone who wants to understand the full China story, beyond the headlines.
Who we are
SupChina is a fully independent, for-profit startup news, information, and business services platform based in New York City. We are funded, first and foremost, by our paying subscribers, and we have also raised private social impact and venture capital funds over the years. More recently, we have launched an equity crowdfunding campaign under the SEC’s Reg CF fundraising rules, which has allowed us to raise private investment funds directly from the public — including many of our audience members. At this point, our stakeholders, investors, and subscribers span the globe.
Our team is comprised of individuals who are Chinese by birth or who have lived significant portions of their lives in China.
We are neither pro- or anti-China, nor are we pro- or anti-America. For that matter, we are not pro- or anti- any country.
We receive no financial support or influence from any individual or organization affiliated with any government, although we are proud to count numerous government employees and offices from countries around the world as paying subscribers of our content.
